Founded in 1923, the Institute of Oceanography at Cầu Đá is one of the oldest marine research stations in Southeast Asia. The public wing has living tanks — sharks, sea turtles, coral, reef fish in full colour — and a collection of more than 20,000 specimens, including the skeleton of a humpback whale nearly 18 m long.
